Breast abnormalities can also occur in men. Some have visible protruding nipples and can be a problem when wearing tight t-shirts. However this can be corrected through a simple procedure that makes the protruding nipples flat. The most common male breast abnormality is the Gynecomastia. 60% of male population worldwide has some degree of this problem. This is the enlargement of the male breast tissue or what they call it “man boobs”. Most of the men having this problem have social and emotional issues because they feel embarrassed about it. This is actually caused by gland tissue underneath the breast or areola. Men like women has the same breast tissue, thus both can get breast cancer, although it’s very rare for men. Gynecomastia is said to be idiopathic, this means that the real cause has not yet been found.
In dealing with this problem, there are certain measures that you can undergo depending on the degree of the gynecomastia. For those people associated with weight gain, exercise to bring your weight down may help. Camouflage using compression garments can also be done. Those with moderate enlargement of breasts can undergo liposuction. Just to take note, in any liposuction, even its VASER liposuction, will only remove the fatty element of the breast tissue. For those who have severe enlargement, gynecomastia surgery is needed. The most common surgery is the Webster’s procedure, named after the surgeon who first described it. In this procedure, the incision will be in between the side of the areola and the skin, forming a moon shape. The extra breast gland tissue that caused the prominence will be removed through that incision. Reduction of wider areas of breast tissue and liposuction can also be done with this procedure; fatty tissue around the breast is reduced to have an overall effect of flatness.
If you have gynecomastia, you can choose any of the solutions given, but you need to discuss this with your surgeon for further information and for a more suitable solution. Also, if you choose to undergo gynecomastia surgery, it is vital to have a normal weight before the procedure. Thus, this is not a solution with your excess weight.
